Patios and Walkways

Pavers form a hard, ground-level surface for patios, walkways, and the transition between your deck and the yard. Because they are set as individual units over a compacted base, a paver surface can flex with ground movement instead of cracking the way a poured slab often does, and a single paver can be lifted and reset if it settles. We install patios for seating and dining areas, walkways connecting the deck, driveway, and entry, and surfaces sized and laid out to suit the space. Paver color, shape, and pattern are selected to match your home and deck.

Retaining Walls

A retaining wall holds back soil on a sloped or uneven lot. It serves two purposes: it controls erosion and runoff by stabilizing the grade, and it converts a slope into flat, usable ground for a patio, seating area, or garden. We build walls sized to the height and load they need to hold, with proper drainage behind the wall, since water pressure in the soil is the most common reason a retaining wall fails over time. Material and finish are chosen to fit the yard and coordinate with the rest of the space.

    Usually, yes. A slope is often handled with a retaining wall that levels the ground, or by grading and stepping the space. We assess the grade during the site visit and lay out an approach that gives you a usable, level area.

  • Will a retaining wall stop the water and washout in my yard?

    A properly built wall with drainage behind it manages soil and runoff on the grade it holds. Drainage is the part that matters most, since water pressure behind a wall is the main reason walls fail. We build in drainage as part of the wall, not as an afterthought.

  • How long does the work take, and how torn up will my yard be?

    Timeline depends on the size and the site. Hardscaping involves excavation and base prep, so there is digging and equipment on site during the build. We contain the work area and clean up at the end. We give you a realistic timeline before we start.

  • Do I need a permit for this?

     It depends on the project and the local requirements. Retaining walls above a certain height in particular can require a permit. As a local contractor, we handle the permitting side and let you know what your specific project needs.
